While it is served by trains and other public transport, driving to Birmingham World makes sense. In 2009, it was actually the UKs 6th busiest airfield – outside London, only Manchester was busier. Public transport isnt always as trusty as it could be, and can work out pricier than driving, especially if there are a few of you travelling. If you have a late night or early morning departure or landing, train and coach times do not always work out. And if you miss your connection to the airport, youre stuck.

Theres a cheap drop and go area outside of the main terminal building, or park for Fifteen mins free in Long Stay 1, simply a short walk or bus ride away from check-in, if you are dropping someone off.

If your flight back is delayed, having your automobile waiting for you at the airfield means you can get home as quickly as possible, at any point of night or day. An alternative choice is among the off-site Birmingham Airport car parks, away from the key compound, but accessible with a shuttle bus service.

You may also opt to have a valet parking service, where you drop off your automobile and it is kept safely until you need it again. Doubtless the most important way to save money is to utilise the Internet to book ahead, or perhaps do it on the phone, on the way to the airfield, if you need to.

Blue Badge parking, for those with mobility problems, is available for people that need it, giving free car parking for at least an hour. But do check direct with the auto park operator first, as they can occasionally offer you a superior deal.

Other stuff you can do include making use of online screenscrapers, which scan the web for the best deals for you. Similarly, if you are staying close by to catch a really early flight, hotels often offer good price parking as part of the deal.

Birmingham Airport car parks do not have to cost the earth – look online and book ahead for the best deals.

Whichever of the

birmingham airport car park

you use, seek for safety and distance from the main terminal Along with price, when you make your booking. After all, youll have enough to contemplate on the day you fly without worrying whether you have a parking space, or how much youll have to pay for it.

Adam Aircraft receive $105 million in funding for A500 and A700

Thursday, June 21, 2007

US aircraft manufacturer Adam Aircraft have received US$105 million in funding for two aircraft that they currently produce, namely the Adam A500 and the Adam A700 AdamJet. Both are carbon-bodied six-seat civil utility aircraft. The A500 is piston-engined and has a Push-pull configuration and the A700 is of a new variety of aircraft known as very light jets (VLJs).

A significant proportion of the money came from a senior secured credit facility from Morgan Stanley Senior Funding Inc. Adam Aircraft say that the money will be used to accelerate the production of the A500 and to move the A700 through the certification process with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Founder and CEO of Adam Aircraft Rick Adam said that investors were given confidence by the company’s order backlog, currently valued at around $800 million. Earlier this month, China’s Hainan Zhong Hang Tai General Aviation Airlines expressed their confidence in the uncertified A700 when they announced that they had placed an order for 50 of the new aircraft. They say that they chose the A700 because it had the largest cabin space of any VLJ, with company CEO Jason Fan adding that he thought the “innovative twin-tail design remind(s) people of a Formula 1 race car.” It is an expensive purchase, as the Chinese government charges a 21% import tax on new aircraft.

Rick Adam said of the new funds “this financing allows Adam Aircraft to aggressively pursue our product development and production growth plans,”.

Adam Aircraft say that the A700 is presently undergoing flight tests and development processes. The company hopes to certify it with the FAA in 2008.

Reports of at least fourteen dead this week due to gun-related suicides in the United States

Sunday, February 3, 2013

A number of suicides as a result of self-inflicted gunshot wounds took place around the United States this week with reports of deaths in Arizona, California, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina and Washington.

Last Saturday in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Assistant U.S. Attorney Alston Badger died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 51 years old.

On Monday in Clark County, Nevada, Jody Sherman, the Ecomom founder and CEO, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Another suicide occurred Monday in New Jersey. Chester and Rosaria Andraka died after Chester allegedly shot Rosaria before killing himself. Chester was a former police officer and there were few signs of trouble in the relationship prior to their deaths.

Another murder-suicide shooting took place on Monday. This one occurred in Elmont, New York, where 58-year-old Audley Dennis is believed to have shot his 46-year-old wife, Karen Rodgers-Dennis, before he shot himself. The couple allegedly had a history of fighting, with a family friend telling the New York Post, “They had their altercations. They would argue and yell, have outbursts.”

In Greensburg, Indiana on Tuesday, local police Lieutenant Larry G. Dance committed suicide, dying from a self-inflicted gunshot. He had joined the police force on January 1, 1995. He left behind by a wife and two daughters.

On Tuesday in Waldorf, Maryland, local police reported an attempted murder-suicide with sixty-four year old Linda Lindsey believed to have shot her husband before fatally shooting herself. Her husband was reported to have survived and be in critical condition.

Devin Peterson, a twenty-two year old, allegedly committed suicide with a state trooper’s shotgun following his alleged theft of a police cruiser, another car and a police chase on Interstate 80 in Nevada on Wednesday.

A seventy-year-old man from Renton, Washington died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound on Wednesday shortly after he called 911 to tell the dispatcher he was planning to take his own life.

On Wednesday, three people died in a murder-suicide in Oxnard, California that involved at least one gun. The deceased included two women and the suspected male shooter.

On Thursday, Lee Vining Fire Chief Tom Strazdims reported an Oregon man likely commited suicide by shooting himself in the parking lot of the town’s visitor center.

Also on Thursday, the body of a suspected gunman accused of killing a call center CEO and injuring a lawyer was found dead of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound in Mesa, Arizona. Police had been searching for the man since Wednesday following the shooting at a mediation session over a lawsuit.

In another reported suicide on Thursday, this one in the Baltimore area, a man was found dead in the parking lot of the Timonium gun range of a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

In Radcliff, Kentucky on Thursday, alleged burglar Michael Strand exchanged gunfire with police after they attempted to bring him in for questioning. Following a lull of approximately an hour, police entered the apartment and found the man dead from an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In Medina, Ohio on Thursday, United States Marine Andrew Baumgartner, who served in Afghanistan and had been discharged several months ago, got into an altercation with Sgt. Scott Schmoll after Schmoll felt a gun on Baumgartner’s person. Following this, Baumgartner hid in nearby woodlands, emerged to knock on the door of a local home to tell the resident he had been hit by a car, only to disappear into the woods again. He subsequently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police discovered his body alongside items they believed he had stolen.

The problem of suicide by self-inflicted gunshot wound is recognized by some gun groups. The Royal Oak shooting range in Michigan stopped renting guns this week following after twelve people having attempted to kill themselves with guns rented from the range since 2001 (five of them were successful). Three of the incidents occurred in the past four months, with two of them fatal.

These suicides take place against a backdrop of gun control discussion in the United States Congress, where former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and an NRA spokesperson appeared before the body this week to discuss the possible need for stricter gun control laws.

According to the Maine Center of Disease Control and Prevention, guns are used in 85% of male suicides in the state. Debate has continued this week in the state about gun control as it relates to suicide. Iran’s PressTV published an opinion piece claiming that for every gun owner who uses their weapon in their home for self-defense, there are eleven suicide attempts involving a weapon. In the United States, veterans are more likely to use guns in acts of suicide than acts of homicide. The number of daily suicides by veterans is currently 22.

Guns are often used in suicide attempts, with PolitiFact reporting on Wednesday that there were 4,643 non-fatal gun involved suicide attempts in 2010. This number contradicts testimony by Wayne LaPierre of NRA to the United States Congress regarding unintentional deaths cause by firearms as LaPierre cited 600 deaths. Australia instituted tougher gun control regulations in 1996, including gun buy back programs. According to a study by Andrew Leigh of Australian National University and Christine Neill of Wilfrid Laurier University, these programs correlate to an 80% drop in suicides involving guns at a time when other methods of suicide remained consistent.

Similar research done in the United States has similar results. A 1991 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found stricter gun control in the District of Columbia was a likely cause of a reduction in the number of suicides by gun shot in D.C. compared to surrounding areas.

New Jersey to consider bikini waxing ban

Friday, March 20, 2009

New Jersey is considering a state-wide ban on Brazilian waxes, the removal of hair from the bikini area.

Although genital waxing has never really been allowed in the state, the New Jersey Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling plans to propose a ban with more specific legal wording, in response to two women who reported being injured during a wax. The board will consider the proposal at their next meeting on April 14.

If the measure passes, New Jersey may become the only US state to ban the practice outright.

Although millions of Americans engage in bikini waxes, which generally cost between $50 and $60 per session, the practice comes with risks. Skin care experts say the hot wax can irritate delicate skin in the bikini area, and result in infections, ingrown hairs and rashes.

Waxing on the face, neck, abdomen, legs and arms would continue to be permitted in the state under the proposed ban. Although New Jersey statutes have always banned bikini waxing, the laws were unclear and seldom enforced.

As a result, many salons from around the state have offered bikini waxing for years. Many salon owners spoke out against the proposed ban, which they said would severely damage their business.

“I really don’t know if the state can stop it at this point,” said Valentia Chistova, owner of the Monmouth County salon Brazil. “I know a lot of women who are really hooked.”

900 oil refinery workers fired after strike at Lindsey

Friday, June 19, 2009

Total S.A., a French oil company has fired 900 contract workers at Lindsey Oil Refinery in North Killingholme, North Lincolnshire, England in response to a wildcat strike which took place at the facility this week. Total is calling the strike “illegal” and “unofficial”; the oil workers, meanwhile, accuse Total of having broken an agreement not to cut jobs by giving 51 workers redundancy. Total claims no such agreement exists. The workers were employed by Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., a contractor at the site, who are constructing a new hydro-desulfurization unit.

“Total can confirm, with regret, that our contractors have now started the process of ending the current employment contracts for their workforce”, the company said in a statement e-mailed to the media.

Workers were informed of the termination decision on Thursday and will have until Monday, June 22, to re-apply for their former jobs.

The strike at Lindsey this week sparked sympathy strikes by workers in energy and the chemical industry around the United Kingdom, which draws extensive revenues from North Sea oil. Attempts by the UK government-sponsored Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service to resolve the dispute between Total and the Lindsey workers failed. Trade union Unite said that it was “extremely concerned about the ramifications” of the firings, while GMB urged both sides to return to the discussion table. Total has made an end to the strike a precondition of a resumption of negotiations; meanwhile, the Lindsey workers’ demands include a withdrawal of the 51 redundancies, an end to overtime, and sharing out of the remaining work at the construction project without layoffs.

Lindsey was the site of labor strife earlier in the year, with a week long strike in February brought about over employees’ protests at foreign labor being brought to the refinery to undercut British workers’ wages. IREM, an Italian construction company working at the site, has made heavy use of the Posted Workers Directive, which as interpreted by the European Court of Justice allows companies to make use of foreign labor from within the EU in one country while paying them only the minimum wage and offering only the coverages and benefits applicable in the employees’ home countries.

The plant, which refines 221,000 barrels of oil each day, will remain at full capacity.

According to its annual report, Total had a 2008 net income of 13.9 billion. Since the firings were announced, shares of Total have gone up in price 0.94% to €39.315 in morning trading.

Bank Overdraft’s Effect On Your Credit Score

Get More Information Here:

By Everett Maclachlan

It is an all-too-common experience these days to login to your online bank account to check that day’s banking activities, only to face the unpleasant surprise that your account has experienced one or more overdrafts that day – resulting in $35, $70, $105 or more in accompanying overdraft fees in the process.

An overdraft, of course, is the situation whereby one or more transactions (e.g., checks written, debit card charges made) that you have initiated represents a dollar amount that exceeded the remaining balance in your checking account. Even for people who consider themselves to be very responsible with their personal banking practices and who run a pretty tight financial ship, overdrafts can be a regular occurrence.

Part of the reason for even the most responsible of us to have frequent overdrafts has to do with the way banks process transactions. For example, looking at the online bank statements in the case of most major banks, it is not always the case that the account owner can easily understand the account’s current status (in terms of outstanding transactions vs. current balance) by giving it just a quick glance. Rather, in many cases you have to get out your calculator and manually check for items that are not immediately obvious but that could affect your near-term balance. Examples of such items include un-cashed checks that already show as having been processed but that are not yet reflected in your current balance, or the often-irregular timing by which the bank processes any outstanding transactions in a given day.

YouTube Preview Image

In short, it can require some serious manual calculations just for you to figure out where things stand with the balance for a given account. This takes time that many of us do not have, and we all pay the price in overdrawn accounts and heavy overdraft fee payments to our banks.

One thing that banking customers wonder is whether having a bank overdraft has an effect on a credit score.

The short answer is: no, the overdraft does not have an effect on your traditional credit, or FICO, score. The FICO score is calculated according to a certain formula that takes into account information pertaining to amount of outstanding debt, timeliness of payments, and related items. However, the determination of your FICO score does not reflect any elements of your overdraft history with banks.

That said, frequent overdrafts could end up getting your name reported to something called Chex Systems, which can result in your application for a checking account being rejected. Chex Systems is a financial reporting system that banks refer to when considering a new checking account application. You can get reported to Chex Systems if eFunds, the company that invented and maintains Chex Systems, believes that you have abused your bank account or bank-related instruments in the past. This could potentially include overdrafts, especially if your bank covered your overdraft but you never paid them back for the amount they covered on your behalf.

If you are concerned about overdrafts and their effects, it is a good idea to consider opening a bank account that does not charge overdraft fees. These banks work by charging you a low monthly checking account fee and in return promise to never, ever charge you an overdraft fee. These banks are few and far between, but their ranks are growing and there are some reputable, national banks that offer no overdraft fee checking.

MG Rover sold to Nanjing Auto

Friday, July 22, 2005

Administrators PriceWaterHouseCoopers (PWC) have announced that the British car company MG Rover and its engine manufacturer Powertrain Ltd has been sold to Chinese company Nanjing Automobile for an unknown sum of money. The company beat bids from Shanghai Automotive (SAIC), despite being the smaller of the two.

MG Rover collapsed this Spring, after struggling to make a profit for several years.

SAIC had tried to buy only the engine plant and then transfer it to China, but in June Nanjing Automobile approached PWC with a combined bid for both the car manufacturing company and Powertrain. This Monday SAIC bid for both but the offer was inferior to Nanjing’s.

Nanjing has indicated that it too will move the engine production plant to China, along with some car manufacturing. However it also intends to continue building cars in Britain, and establish an engineering research and design centre there in an effort to expand its sales globally. Nanjing intends to start hiring at once.
